I just got a notice about a data leak from this website and that I need to change my password. Meh passingly curious about what happened. Nobody is posting their SSN on here (lol). But it’s the voyeur in me that wants to know

Or is it just me?

I didn't get this.

Bah. I bet this is a “me” thing then.

Weird though. Even if they’re just password fishing, iPhones are traditionally reliable enough with security that I haven’t seen this before.

To be honest, I’ve never changed my password for this website. I have an irrational connection to it. Nearly 20 years with the same one. So if I start posting about Nigerian gold, just ignore it…

I've seen this before from people's accounts that have asked me to do a password reset for them in the past.
(Never from my own account)

From what I have seen, it usually means you are using the same password here as somewhere else and ANOTHER site lost all their data and it knows your username/password here is identical to somewhere else.

It's best to use a different password on every website you use and let Google/your iPhone/whatever store all of your passwords for you.
Unless you don't like that.

I see a similar warning every time I log in via my Android phone. I ignore it 'cuz the password here is really old and hasn't been used anywhere else in a very long time.

This is correct. Apple is only pointing out that the password you are using here on TheSamba has been identified in a leak- outside of TheSamba. They get information about data leaks and inform those who are using the passwords in them that they should change their password since it was in a leak.

Thanks for the confirmation.

The messages I've seen before were from Google but that may be because I was using the Google Chrome browser at the time.
