I suspect that this is a wheel from the 70's. The center cap is installed using the lug bolts. I need a couple of like wheels 5" or 5-1/2" wide for the front. Thanks in advance for info

Those appear to be old Jackman wheels - there are some available on Wheels and tires classifieds here on TheSamba. Assume yours are wide five.

That center cap is made to go behind the wheel. It fits between the wheel and brake disk or drum. Looks much better that way and is not messed up by the lug nuts. Tom

I just picked up a set that someone painted red. Two 6" and two 8" but looking at them they may be made by two different manufacturers.

You can see how the narrow ones have a rim that is part of the spokes but the wide ones have the spokes directly welded to the rim. The wide ones look like Jackmans but the narrow ones look like the ones J Bugs sells.

I am not so sure I am sold on the color though.

DO NOT install the hub cap like that. It shokld be behind the wheel. The lug nuts will not seat propetly and you risk losing a wheel

They could both be from Custom & Commercial Wheel. I remember seeing both of those styles, and a few more, all available in either chrome, or white with thin red and blue pinstripes around the edge. The style I ended up getting were like the ones with the slightly smaller cutouts, with fake rivets around the outside of the center, and in chrome. Back then (early ‘90’s) you could specify offset within the range possible for the design. The design with the smaller cutouts that didn’t extend to the rim could be ordered with a more positive ET (that I wanted). My fronts were 15 by 5 with a +25 ET. The rears were 15 by 7 with a 0 ET.

I sold those after I changed to 14 inch Bus steel wheels, powder coated almond, for a more old skool rod look. The front are stock with a +48 ET. The rears are widened to 7.5 inches and deep dish (negative ET). I swapped to short axles at the same time, to get that deep dish steely look and to tuck the front tires in more.

The version of those the OP has are very common and a set of 5 inch wide fronts shouldn’t be too hard to find.
