Hi everyone,
I'm working thru the front suspension of my 62' and the pitman arm and inner tie rod ends both attach to this plate instead of each other. I've search to see if I can find out what it is and what it's for but can't find anything about it. Can anyone tell me what it is and what it's for? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

That's not a VW part...both tie rods should attach directly to the pitman arm.
That piece was added by a previous owner to quicken the steering response and reduce the number of turns lock-to-lock.
It's not recommended for use in street-driven cars

Thank you! I'll leave it off then. I appreciate the info! |

It was sold as a “Quick Steer” kit so you don’t have to turn the steering wheel as far to make a turn.
I have one on my Ghia that I installed as a lark since I had it in my stash.
I’m pretty sure I will remove it at some point. It’s kind of nice in parking lots but at speed through the mountain twisties, it creates a lot of oversteer that can be rather hair raising. |
