| Someone asked me today if my super beetle was a three on the tree, so that made me curious: has above ever converted an aircooled vw to a column shift? Manual or auto stick (or even like an automatic tire 3) |

| That in my view would be a step backwards! The old “three on the tree” and in Mercedes case “four on the tree” were notoriously imprecise and unreliable especially as they aged. Far too many moving parts, pivots and joints to wear out and get sloppy. |
