Hello,
Hoping someone can answer.
The ball end of my gas gauge cable is gone where it meets the sender. I would like to reuse my gauge and simply swap out the cable/housing. I know that this would require me to open up the gauge.
My question is whether or not a a mechanical beetle gauge would be a suitable donor? It is way cheaper to buy a bug one. So does anyone know if the cable length is similar? My Ghia is a 66. Beetle gauge would be from similar era 62-66 I believe.
Thanks

Since the location of the dash on the KG and the bug are the same, but the location of the gauge on the beetle was to the left of the speedo, while on the KG was in the center. Even so, I expect the length to be similar.
If it is just the ball end that has gone - here’s an idea. Take a pop rive and pull out the mandrel. Take the rivet head and insert it over the end of the cable where the ball used to be and crimp the rivet head to the cable. That should allow it to engage with the sending unit arm. |

Thanks for the reply.
I also would bet the length is similar.
I had previously replaced the cable and housing with stainless bike wire and crimped a cable end on there it worked for awhile.
I was going to solder an end on but the cost of proper solder and flux is a push with cost of beetle gauge. |
