View original topic: Narrowing Right Rear 1/4" Somehow

So, I finally got the stance on my car perfect. Only problem is my right rear tire rubs the inside of the fender by a minimal amount- about 1/4". My options are-

1. Roll the fender- worried about paint damage.

2. Switch the disc brakes out for zero offset set.

3. Get new wheels. I really like the original Mangles that are currently on it.

Any other thoughts or ideas on how to accomplish this? Appreciate the help.

Number 2 seems to be the easiest.
Sometimes though, things don’t come out right no matter what you do.

Or run a pair of slightly narrower tires in the rear. Certainly a quick and easy solution. Depending on what tires you select, the total cost would probably be comparable to what #2 & 3 would cost (and #1 if you pay a professional to do it or you try and the paint gets messed up). You can use this link to compare the dimensions of your current tires to other sizes so you can select a size that has the same overall diameter but is about a 1/2" narrower.

New tires would be a great solution if there was something out there. Currently running 205/70's in the rear. It's the tallest and narrowest tire I can find, and I like the way they look. Any other tires would either be too short or too wide, I think.

I think some don't read "right rear". Try a right to left wheel swap and see if it's the same. Also measure C/L of transaxle to fender lip.

Just gently yank the fender out a little bit where it's rubbing, it's 50 some years old so being slightly tweaked is to be expected.

and the dimensions of aftermarket fenders have varied greatly through the years...if you put the drums back on the rear I doubt you would actually notice any difference in braking
