Trying to install a new exhaust from Empi.......Yeah.... I know :(

Have J-Tubes and having a hard time lining up the tubes to the exhaust.

Besides using heat to bend these suckers has anyone used band clamps to mate the jtube to the exhaust??

The jtubes do not even want to slide into the exhaust. Very frustrating

Band clamps wont work even if you founf them in the smaller VW sized exhaust.

Is the OD of the J-Tubes too big or is it just alignment? If too big them you need different J-Tubes, what exhaust was on it before the EMPI purchase?

I always have the J-Tubes or Exchagers off, first mount the extrator/mufler with nuts started but loose, then slid the J-Tubes/Extractor in and start the nuts. Then start tightening everthing up.

I just noticed that my Tubes do not taper at the end. I had these in my parts stash. These have the tabs on them for the sheet metal. I may order a new set that taper on the end and will fit inside the exhaust.

Its a 75 Super, no FI and no heater boxes.

It had a custom exhaust with a flow master and was loud as heck.

Thanks for the reply

Not always, there are J-Tubes made in 1-3/8" tube that fit stock, the J-Tubes made from 1-1/2" Tube are necked down to fit 1-3/8 stock size. The J-Tubes you have now may very well be 1-5/8" diameter for performance exhaust.
