View original topic: 95 EVC Secondary air injection pump is locked up. Delete system?

Chasing a Check engine light and discovered that the secondary air injection pump is full of rust and locked up. I soaked it in PB Blaster,.....no help. I spent about an hour doing various searches,....and not finding any. It's a Pierburg 023 959 253 air injection pump. I did grab a pump from a 2001 EVC from forum member Kourt but it is completely different and the part number is not remotely close. Wondering if anyone has made one of the VR6-24 pumps work on a 95 EVC 2.5 L5

I have heard of various Secondary air injection system delete kits,.....wondering if there is such a thing available for the 95 2.5L in the EVC or is anyone has a lead on a known good secondary air pump.. Also wondering if the van can be driven with this pump and related solenoid and hoses removed?

Pics show my most recent Check engine codes, and the pic of the pumps shows mine on the left and the VR6 pump on the right.

What I would do here is build a block plate that is the same footprint as the combi valve. You could build that out of aluminum bar stock from Home Depot.

Take off the combi valve, disassemble the upper parts that are not needed, and reinstall it with the combi valve bolted over (sandwiching) the aluminum block plate you fabricated. That takes care of the exhaust side.

Find the various vacuum lines serving the solenoid attached to the air pump and reroute/eliminate them. Remove the air pump and associated hoses.

You will then get a check engine light. Do what you want with that. Some places on the internet will mod your ECU to remove the CEL.

Vwvortex has threads on his to do this you have to wire in a capacitor or something like that to fool the ecu if you don’t want a CEL.

You can certainly hack the old pump apart, and use its connector and inlet and outlet flanges to modify the VR6 pump, or really any SAI pump of approximately equivalent spec. You might need to fabricobble a new mount as well, but it should work just fine.

Lots of SAI delete kits out there, but none are specific to the Eurovan, and none are meant for a non-VR6 engine.

UROtuning

This block off plate might work for an AXK VR6, but I don't know what shape the port is on your 95.

I'm pretty committed to deleting my SAI when my van turns 25, but not prior.

These systems work by pumping extra air into the exhaust upstream of the rear OXS to burn excess fuel during cold start. They only operate for the first minute or so of cold engine running. When the ECu commands the SAS on, it looks at the voltage across the rearOXS pins for an excess O2 condition. You can put a diode across those pins to simulate the voltage drop and prevent the CEL

Info needed, locate the right pins monitoring OXS voltage

Well, after rounding up bits to mount the VR6 air pump on the 95 EVC,...I thought I should re-test the blower before I began cutting wires and tubes to attempt an install. The blower ran, but was not moving any air,......I thought I had the polarity reversed,...so switched my power probe test leads,....and shorted the motor,.......so,........it is now dead.

So, I am now defeated,........and want this to just be over. So, now wanting more input on an SAI delete on the 2.5 5 cylinder.
