View original topic: Another turn signal problem - 1967 bus

When I start the bus both right and left turn signals blink very rapidly. After I drive it for awhile - maybe 20 minutes - the turn signals start to slow down and are almost normal. Any ideas? Is it a bad relay? I've checked all the grounds and they are good. I've replaced all the bulbs. It's 12 volt.

Any help is appreciated.

Maybe it is a grounding issue. Does this look correct? I don't see a ground on the front left turn signal.

Do you mean they both blink rapidly at same time when bus is started, or just when signaling for a turn after starting? IF the second, since they both do it, I'd suspect the relay. if first, you have way bigger problems!

Only one side flashes. In other words, both sides don't flash at the same time.

When using the turn signal lever? Since it happens on both sides, it can't be just a bad ground on one bulb. Still, very easy to add grounds to t/s housings, and I recommend it.

I moved the wire less visible later...

After that, check the grounds on your t/s relay, or try another unit. The fact that it gets better over time makes me think something internal to the relay, but easy enough to eliminate if you have a spare..

This reads like a voltage regulator problem. When you first start the voltage is sky high. Then as the battery absorbs the voltage lowers.
