Hi chaps
Looking for some advice.
I have started to look at the Cargo Door seals. I am pretty sure that the top seal hasn’t been changed since 1966 :lol: and there is no seal in the bottom.
I have just removed it and it is absolutely gone. I’m interested in confirming my belief that this seal is the original one, and also interested in the shape of this seal compared to what is available today ? I’m going to buy the 9 Piece replacement set, and wondering what you guys use ? Are the top and bottom seals a different profile to the doors ?

Everything we know of today is sold with a rectangle cross section for all the cargo door seal pieces.
Just checked a MAR62 SO-34 we have that still has the original door deals and they are just the rectangle cross section seal. Wonder if what you have is a later improvement or was a test market for wetter climes try at a new improved seal..... Maybe check the "Progressive Refinements" to check for the former.

Think the string was used as a metering device, to keep the rubber seal much more uniform shape and dimensions as it was being extruded around the string. |

The top and lower seal are originally notched at the boxes where the cargo door rods go into the body. All of the aftermarket seals need to be cut / notched.
There is a thread titled WW WCM Front/ Cargo Door Gray Weatherstrip Rubber where Mark Rafferty aka Beaterbarndoor suggest procuring the cargo door seals from a company in the UK. If I were to buy the cargo door seals again, I would buy them from the company Mark recommends. When Mark speaks, I listen :lol:
I have the WW ones installed on my bus and they are dog poop. They are super thick and you have to cut the backs of them to make them work. I have already destroyed an NOS cargo door mechanism due to the WW being too thick and this was after spending hours cutting the backs of the seals to make the cargo doors shut nicely. |

The "no reason to believe they aren't the original cargo door seals" I removed from my 66 gave off a hard "skunk" smell when I removed them and scraped out the glue residue that held them in. Like others, the WCM seals I replaced them with were the grey rectangle shaped stuff. I used a Dremel tool with a sanding drum bit to remove material on the backside where needed at the door hinges etc. I've never seen seals with the cross section as yours. |

Original. It is a type of foam that expands but the area that forms against the mold hardens to become the outer crust. |
