Hi,
I'm trying to look into a body number of a beetle that a friend has just bought.
It's a 5 digit number with the hatching behind and it looks original, number 56579- can anyone help identify the correct body year please?
Iv looked at the charts on here but can't make out what it should be.

56579 looks like June, 1949
Is that what you expect?
Meaning is it a 1949 Beetle?
056579 is an October, 1955 Beetle (1956 model) but I'm not sure if that would have a "0" prefix or not so that might be another option, if it's clearly a 1955-56 Oval Window Beetle |

That's what I thought from looking at the charts, the car was expected to be a 59!
There's no signs of it being chopped about or messed with either on the face of it- maybe he needs to have a digit around and.see it its had a front clip welded into i.

Its August of 57 built, so it would be a 58 model. Also, Glacier Blue is a one year 58 only color. 8) |

56579 is September, 1957 according to the charts on the site above.
Last body # for August, 1957 was: 56 005 |
