View original topic: Part Number Guru | Are you out there? Factory Spindle Part #'s

I have been doing some research and have been striking out on the actual part numbers for the following parts. I hope someone can chime in with some knowledge that I am lacking and hopefully I can become more astute with your help.

1966-1968 Stock Height Drum Ball Joint Spindle Right
1966-1968 Stock Height Drum Ball Joint Spindle Left

1966-1968 Stock Height Disc Spindle Left
1966-1968 Stock Height Disc Spindle Right

The listing on the web combine the 66-68 and 69 and later which is incorrect. 1966 through most of 1968 has a smaller inner bearing a seal race and a 10mm tie rod end with 17mm nuts on them. Last two months of 68 through 1977 had a larger inner race, wheel bearing and 12mm tie rod end with a 19mm nut on them.

Those part numbers are:
1969-1977 Stock Height Drum Ball Joint Spindle Right 113405312E
1969-1977 Stock Height Drum Ball Joint Spindle Left 113405311E

1969-1975 Stock Height Disc Spindle Left 113405312D
1969-1975 Stock Height Disc Spindle Right 113405311D

I am also looking for parts numbers for the following:

1949-1960 Type 1 Steering Box Clamp - No Locaters

1962-1977 Type 1/3 Steering Box OEM Case

Are there any part number guru's out there that can lend an assist? If my part numbers are off, I wouldn't mind being corrected. Thanks.

In May 1960 the Mounting Clamp - Steering Gear was 111 415 155

The German language AUG 71 parts book sometimes lists things not in the English language book.

It shows the the Left Knuckle for Disc Brakes, 1967-late 68 was 113 405 311. It does not list the right side, but going off of that, if I was to guess, it would be 113 405 312.

No listings for the 1966-late 68 drum brake spindle though.

And it's not quite fair to say the superseded part numbers are incorrect because The VW parts book clearly says you have to use different inner bearing, seal and tie rod end when installing the new spindles on late 68 and older.

Steering Gear Case was 311 415 105 A in AUG 71. I'm sure it started out without that letter A on the end but I don't know when that change happened. I know the cover changed NOV 30 1964, one third of the way into model year 1965.

It's all explained on the OACDP. I think.

Look at Section 4, Illustration 24, Pages 4-13 and 4-14. Part 17.

Depending on your VIN number there are explanations to use different parts. For example after 118 857 239 use a different number.
