View original topic: Sew Fine Carpet Failure Review

I just received my carpet I ordered through GoWesty, but made and shipped by Sew Fine, and I have no idea how this made it through any sort of quality control. The binding is horrible. I know I can be picky, and I accepted that this is in general a lesser quality kit with no vinyl trim or binding, not molded, etc, but WTF? 8 of the pieces had flaws with the binding.

Lesson learned. I know it is twice the money, but the FORST carpet set from Heritage Parts in the UK looks to be a much better product. Better edging, rubber trim where it should be and molded same as OEM.

If it weren't for the cost of shipping this would actually be about the same price as the less than stellar (trying to use less abrasive language) sold by Sew Fine.

A few pictures of how bad the binding was. Thankfully GoWesty gave me no issues returning it.

Makes me question their work and materials now...

I got some upholstery samples recently, left one in the van in the shade and the other identical on the dash for a month.

Shit went from brown to red :?

I have never seen a sewfine interior and thought to myself "that really looks good". I have been around the VW scene for a long time, I came from the aircooled crowd.where their products are prevalent.

Good to hear the vendor took care of you without hassle.

It's everywhere. I just bought a carpet set for a Range Rover Classic and it too was shit. I bought Wilton wool from John Skinner in the UK for a 1969 Triumph TR6, and it was amazing quality. I am hoping the molded and better bound carpet set from Heritage Parts Center is much better quality.

I used these guys, carpet seems to be holding up pretty well.

Might be worth reaching out to them and seeing if they can stock some stateside.

I have their curtain set which was exclusive to the UK, but they had enough people reach out that they started stocking them here too. Instead of shipping from the UK, you’re just shipping in the US.

Would it be fair to say that GoWesty being the middleman and getting some profit should hold the candle on this?

MSGGrunt Tue Jul 01, 2025 10:05 am

GoWesty was very accommodating on the phone when I called to voice my concerns, but with them being the middle man there isn't much they can do unless they are getting a lot of dissatisfied customer, which probably isn't the case.

My only complaint with GoWesty will be if I have to foot the bill for return shipping on a defective item, which has been the case in the past. For a smaller, IACV, it wasn't an issue, but the carpets are heavier and a large box.

F that, they sold it to you and should take it back on their dime, you're not QC (Quality Control) yet you are with this offering.

I am waiting to hear back from them. When I submitted my return request on-line it auto generated a return authorization almost immediately and the customer serve rep said I didn't need to wait for approval like the email said and that I could mail it back immediately, which means no return shipping label and I would have to pay for it. I am waiting to see what a follow-on email will say.

I had the same issues with a tmi kit. The quality was so poor, fit was crap and the binding was unraveling. I returned it. I was going to buy the kit from heritage but shipping was nearly the same as the kit. My wife flys to London all the time and I was going to have her bring it home for me, but then I got lazy and reinstalled my old old crappy greyish carpet, with a mat over it.

GoWesty did the right thing and sent me a prepaid return label for a refund. Now I am just waiting on the new carpet to arrive from the UK.

Did you go with the Forst carpet or Newton Commercial?

MSGGrunt Mon Jul 07, 2025 4:13 pm

Forst.

I would have reached out to SewFine. They did some killer work for me. Unless they bought "mistakes" from SF to resell (totally possible) that quality is not something they'd send out the door
