| ^ I agree... though the spline change could've already been for the '73 model year. My genuine VW Sports Bug steering wheel from a '73 Super Beetle fits directly onto the splines of my '77 Beetle, with full horn functionality. |

That's encouraging. I'm going to a used parts place on Thursday and will hopefully find a wheel. I guess I'll know for sure when I decide to unbolt what's already there and attempt a change. |
