I am refurbishing my speedometer and was wondering what type of oil or lubricant to use for the gears, under the magnet, and on the shaft.

My speedometer needle used to bounce.
I tried white lithium grease in a spray but it did not last.
Car club member had me try garage door/spring lube. NOT the crud from Homo Depot - his BIL got it off an actual overhead door repair person's work truck.
It's been 4+yrs now & hasn't bounced once.
Applied generously for sure.
Not too sure about "plastic" gears but have read it should be taken apart, cleaned, & then lubed.
Tons of videos AND threads on speedometer rehabs.
Good luck ... stay safe

It was a medium green aerosol can, white label.
Probly from their supply house. Only for inside of cable, gears require some type of grease but I don't know what is correct.
Good luck ... stay safe
