I am new to working on beetles. I bought a 72 super and replaced the heads, intake, carb, fuel pump and other things. The engine is running great, but I noticed oil slung all over the engine bay. My initial thought was from the crank pully. Pulled it off and the back was very clean. My next guess is the alternator stand. I removed the carb, distributor, and fuel pump to access the stand bolts better. When I removed the fuel pump I noticed the base is full of oil. Is this normal,(see Pic). Also any advice on where else to look for the source of the leak would be appetited. I am using an oils breather from jbugs. I have seen some picks where the breather hose is ran to the bottom of the air filter. Could the breather be causing the oil leak?

On the oil fill stand there is a smaller pipe that runs down thru the engine tin. Check to make sure this is not clogged. If it is clogged it will cause excessive crankcase pressure and force leaks. |

I have an aftermarket alt stand and it has a nipple fitting off the side. That is where I have the breather attached |
