Hi Tony,
Just for your record keeping, there is this very nice one built and owned by the original guy up here in Spokane. It has a 36hp motor and was done along time ago.
He owned a VW shop here for well over 30 years. I would like to get it but as of now it is not for sale
Taken next to my buggy in 09 at VW event.

I have a yellow Sportster that's sitting in my garage, patiently waiting for some tlc. Once I'm done with a couple of other projects, the buggy will get my full attention. Some photos of it are in the gallery.

There is one in Belton, Texas owned by Paul Smith. It is blue and has a matching trailer that was built using the same lines as the Sportster.
It is up for sale. $3,000 for both. |

The brown and white one looks like Scott Drolet's from the Manx Club. Clean looking EMPI. |

I own the first 4 seat Sportster made. My vin # is 004. Its the 4th Sportster made and the 1st full pan Sportster. Its very unique being the first. My Sportster also has a Patent pending tag. My Sportster was made at Empi of Riverside by Dean Lowery and Lee Leighton. Its original paint. My kids learned to drive in this Sportster. I took it to Buses by the bridge many years ago and gave many rides at The Lake . I really like my Sportster

Nice wide 5 ET Mags! That's a genuine Empi made Sportster for sure. The engine cage and roll cage were homemade additions though.

I just found an Empi Sportster on CL in Phoenix AZ a few weeks ago. Had a friend down there pick it up for me and stick it in his garage. Have some pictures but havent been down to get it/see it in person yet. Am an old hand at Willys Jeeps (look up Jim Boswell on CJ3B page) and military vehicles, lots of vintage 4x4s but am new and having fun with the VW stuff. Have been researching the sportsters a lot, not much out there, appears I have scored a very old school rig with lots of vintage parts. I also just bought a Cuma fiberglass bodied buggy, very cool body style, have it here in Durango but its been too freakin (-20 at night) cold to play outside. Titled as a 66 VW.
