| I have this old VW engine that I have rebuilt and was getting ready to do the end play but the flywheel I have won't fit. when I got the engine the flywheel wasn't on it and the guy gave me a 36h that definitely wouldn't fit. I asked if he had a later one with the 4 8mm dowel pin holes that was also a 6v. I got it but it turns out it's for a later VW with a smaller crank end. my 40h crank end measures 2.108 diameter. The later flywheel inner opening with the O-ring measures 2.098 diameter. no go so what flywheel I'm I looking for then? |

I did a quick check. Main bearings on the crank are the same for 1200s and 1600s. Have you tried to get the flywheel on without the dowel pins? That might be the 'hold up'. |

Sounds like you want the 6v flywheel that has a "step"

| yes you were correct on the 6v flywheel with the step. I found one on FB marketplace that was given to me yesterday on the old 40h engine he had that is locked up. parts are missing on it but will take apart someday down the road and go through it. You never know on these if they were rode hard or just had one issue and sat to the side for years. |
