Recently took possession of a Zenith blue ‘67. While it’s a solid car going through it a few minor things have surfaced.
The turn signals weren’t canceling consistently, and then I noticed the turn signal switch was rotating around the column. Tightening the set screw fixed it, thankfully.
Does anyone know the specifics of the set screw? My example is rather chewed up and I’d replace it if possible. Checking the usual sources doesn’t reveal much.
Thanks! |

While one could replace that screw, it will require machining to do so.

Yeah, it's more than just a set screw. Or it's supposed to be. It's a screw that pushes down on a contact plate. If that contact plate has fallen off, well that screw will just gouge the heck out of the column tube and just get loose again. I've seen it before. |

Thanks, I hadn’t seen what the interior of the housing looks like stock. I’d seen another example where somebody had just used what looked like a wood screw. #-o
Hopefully I’ve tightened my original enough it will hold. Otherwise, I guess I’ll be in the market for some used parts. |

And, mind the gap (later column design, but same spec):

It's not that common for the column tube to have been re-positioned within the firewall rubber grommet and rubber sleeve at the clamp by the turn switch. I mention this because the turn switch is supposed to be fully seated on top of the column tube. Then you slide entire the tube up or down to change the gap between the switch and the steering wheel.
If you read VW's instruction, they use really odd lingo, you don't touch the steering coupler at all for this, just the column tube clamp.
My 62, I had to make this adjustment and you can tell by the discoloration of the paint from where it had been clamped down.
