In need of a little help. Should I need to heat up the pulley to get it back further? Or any other method? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

It is a sand seal pully

It should be snug, but then you never know if the aftermarket pulley is undersized.

You can try using a block of wood and a hammer to push it on.

Is the pulley powder painted? If so use a scotchbrite pad to remove the paint.

Thanks Glenn. It is machined down so there isnt any finish on those contacts points that would potentially be affected.
And MST did machine it for this specific sand seal. I think i may need to put a little force on it like you suggested. Just didn't want to break any thing.

Also, can someone suggest how much further back it should go based on the pictures? Flush in the front?

Until it stops.

You can also use the pulley bolt to drive it on.

BTW, it has to lineup with the alternator pulley and idler wheel.

I H@TE those serp belt systems. A solution looking for a problem, in my opinion.

So i overlooked a big discrepency in the fitment issues

the new pully hub is a decent amount longer than the original one and thats why it wasnt fitting up like the silver one.

Once i get my shroud trimmed and fitted with the alternator, fan, etc im going to see what the belt alignment is like across the two pullys.

I definitely have the crank one bottomed out now though

If you could edit the title so it can be searched for properly would be great.

Lower pulley should never be press fit tight, at most a snug fit.

Take pulley off and sand inside going around and around inside it. Then fit to the crankshaft till it can not be fitted on by hand any more. When you take the pulley back off you will see that the crankshaft scratches inside the pulley are 90 degrees out from your hand sanding, and so shows where the crankshaft is too tight to the pulley. Hand sand those scratched area going front to back and when you think you have done that enough sand going around and around the inside. Fit back onto the crankshaft and repeat sanding if needed till the pulley slides right onto the crankshaft.

I remember you helping me with that on a pulley over 20 years ago. I later removed the pulley and it was very nice for it to be a perfect fit. Made the servicing easy.
