Hi all,
First post here. I've just acquired my first Ghia (in Oz) and it's on its way across the country to me. In the interim, I ordered her birth certificate to see what the original paint colour was, and it was Pine Green (L61K). It seems that colour was only offered in 1968, and I can't find any photos of it (Ghia's or otherwise).
Does anyone have one?
Thanks,
Zach |

Welcome to The Samba, Zach.
Here are some starting points where you can explore.
Paint and upholstery for Ghias. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodesghia.php
Pine green shows up as a dark colour.
Glasurit Colour online is where you can find the mix formulas.

The site is a tad clunky but works well enough. L61K comes up as "FICHTENGRUEN" which translates to "Spruce Green". It is a mid green and quite different to the upholstery guide.
If it's been sprayed you may have to find a spot that still has the original paint and have a body shop use their spectrophotometer to determine the colour

This isn't a car but I found this listing for Pine Green in the Gallery as an outside wheel color

Thank you all for the replies. I may end up changing the colour anyway, but appreciate the time to give that info.
Cheers,

Here’s a couple shots of a pine green 68 vert I painted a few years ago. I’ve owned 30 ghias over the years, mostly lowlights so I can’t really use the later colour combos like this, but I will say this is the nicest colour I’ve ever put on a ghia body and I’ve shot tons. It looks like British racing green but even better imho. While I don’t love it with the white top and interior they originally came wit, using a black canvas top, black interior and original blacked out sprint star wheels, this car looked sick!! Super classy and it really showed the racy lines of the ghia body well. I still kick myself for selling it but my garage can only hold so many cars and my lowlights got together and pushed this one out! |

That’s brilliant, thanks for posting that pic. I’d pretty much decided to paint it a different colour but after seeing that I think I may go original! You don’t happen to remember the mixing codes for the paint to you? |

You can use the glasurit page above to get their mixing formula for pine green. I did and then used it at my local DuPont shop to get some single stage mixed as it’s about a third the price and just as nice when buffed (that’ll piss off the glasurit guys but it’s true). Glasurit does have a nice clear as does ppg for half the price if you are thinking base clear but all three can mix pine green once they have the glasurit formula. |
