I want to install bumper guards on my ghia coupe.
But they don’t seem to fit very well.
Does anyone know how the should by mounted?
There is a lot of space between the guard and the body…
The ones for the rear are even worse.
I hope it are the correct ones…?
Thx

Well, you have them in the wrong orientation for one. The angle meets the body not the bumper and they should be in line with the seam where the bumper sections are bolted together.
There should be two with holes. They are for the front over-rider support brackets. |

Does this help?
This is the front driver side. You can see the angle on the bracket faces back toward the body. The hole in the top is for the overrider support bracket that comes out. The bracket does not fit smoothly against the body on mine, you can see a little gap between the rubber and the body. |

This helpt a lot.
I am starting to think that my bumper is way to far from the car. When I put the bracket to the car There is a lot of space between te bracket and the bumper…
Will place a picture…
Can you take a picture from the rear also please? |

The bumper is ~ 3 cm from the body at the center. The ruler is level at the top of the bumper.
All the pictures are for the front driver-side.
There is a rubber piece that the bolt goes through on the outside corner.
If your bumpers are too far from the body, check where the bolts mount to the body inside the front. From the top of the bumper hole in the front, the first bolt is ~3.5 inches to the center of the bolt. The measurement in the photo looks a little shorter, I think due to the angle of the camera.
I don't have the bracket surrounds on the rear. |

Are you using the brackets intended for the rear on the front? The rear ones are longer.

"VR" is consistent with the German words "vorne rechts", front right.
My '64 has an undamaged nose. When I pieced together all of the front bumper parts back in the late '80's, I was diligent to get the entire bumper level, straight across; and equidistant/symmetrical to the body. I just went down to the garage to measure the bumper blade center-to-body nose prow per 22manybugs' photo below; my dimension is 35 mm.
The extra 5 mm distance compared to the photo could be accomodated by the slot lengths in the bumper brackets. |
