View original topic: Advice for A1 class 11 exhaust on my Baja.

Well, I’m in this too deep and need to find a way to make this thing work :D

I got an A1 class 11 exhaust to move my exhaust further from the motor. It does do that, and it looks cool. It is loud, but that is not my problem.

The problem is the exhaust tip hits the rear cage bumper. I can flip it and have it vent towards the sky. But it just doesn’t seem right. So I think my option would be to cut the tip at the red line, it would still heat up the cage, but maybe not that much? Or should I just not worry? I’ve been accused of overthinking.

What are your thoughts folks? Thanks!

If it was my decision I would redirect the exit tube so it blows straight back instead of at the dirt.

Is it possible to cut the exhaust at one of the slip joints?
If you did that it would move the outlet left and past the cage.

Pointing down causes a lot of dust and you will be invited to follow the group. Been there, done that.
Slash cutting may work and the bumper will not heat up much, but any contact will rattle a lot. I think you want about an inch clearance from the bumper.

^^^This^^^

If you cant then I'd grind a nice looking scallop on the tip. Add style and provide some clearance. Like what I did at the tip of my intake box. I wouldn't worry about the cage heating up. The focus to to provide some clearance.

Thanks for all the idea dudes! I am also gonna take a quick try at moving the cage back on the mounts an inch. That might work?

This A1 exhaust is pretty fixed in it's position. If I could put a spacer of 2" right here all my problems would go away.

SO I take it it Tri- Mill is like Engle cams 1980's old fart parts and people have moved on?

I have the Tri-Mil Bobtail system. Its so damn close to the crank pulley you cant get a wrench on it!
I have no idea why they made it like that?

It would be pretty easy to make a spacer. Just need another V-band set.

Because we are real men I have the same exhaust my hands are full of burn scars. It also improves departure angles for those who actually off road and need it.

I'm working on cutting the corner off on my rear cage it acts likes a scoop if I have to reverse. I can save a few inches if done right.

Tiger at A1 is a champ, he’s going to modify the muffler to work.

For 2K nice of them to add some tube get that outlet centered straight out the back For city driving. When its out the driver side the breeze can whip the exhaust right back in your face.

Well, I didn’t buy it direct from A1, so I think the service is pretty good. But yeah, it’ll face the right when it fits correctly.

There's always a compromise and rarely perfection.

DSX seems like a glass half-empty guy.

Got this all installed and sorted out.

This morning AWS had a big outage with US-EAST1 and I bet that the samba is hosted on that.

But if you are bored enough I did take some notes of the install here : https://robonza.com/beetle/index.php/2025/10/18/a-1-performance-class-11-exhaust-on-a-baja-bug/
