I had someone put new upholstery in my 69 bug sedan that I bought from JBugs (I know) but some versions the carpet does not go up the rear window and some it seems like it does.
Does anyone know what was original style in 1969? My new carpet now goes all the way up to the rear window.
It was in 1990 altered to non-original upholstery so this new Jbugs upholstery is my attempt to at least try to bring it back to original specifications.
The pic with the carpet going all the way up to under the rear window is what it looks like now. Again, previous upholstery was not in any way VW styling, so I don't have a record of what was there originally.
The other pic (with carpet that does not go all the way up to the rear window )seems to be popular in many 60s beetles.

I have an original in-the-family-since new 68 and a parts 70 body that both had the same original carpet.
Both the 68 and 70 have the carpet style like your second photo. That is, it does not go to the bottom of the window. I would think that the 69 was the same but maybe someone with a 69 will chip in for sure.
The only thing is that my original (which has been subsequently removed an replaced) just looks a tiny bit different in height between the top of the carpet and the bottom of the window. This may just be an optical illusion between your photo and my archival photo.
