My ky (1.7L) engine wont start cold and its driving me nuts for the last few weeks.
Cranks but simply wont start.
It can start by pushing/rolling downhill and hitting 2nd/3rd gear.
And when its warmed up, it starts without any issues.
So far i've changed:
- starter (ruined the first one by constantly cranking and hoping for the best)
- battery (the old one was 4+ years old)
- every visibly suspicious wire and its connector
- air filter
- fuel hose from filter to injection pump
- non return valve between pump and filter
- professionally repaired injection (bosch) pump (*it leaked a bit on the cold start lever)
One thing ive noticed yesterday is, when i unscrew the bolt at the top of the fuel filter and check for fuel level in it, well, its not full. It needs around 0.3L of diesel to be all the way up to the threads. Is that normal? Isn't fuel filter supposed to be always full?
Another thing i noticed, if i unscrew the water separator valve at the bottom of the fuel filter, fuel starts leaking. If i remember correctly, this never happend before... only few drops of water would drip sometimes, if that.
Btw the outside temperature shouldn't be an issue, its around 15 celsius / 60F
What else should i check? This van is my daily and i need to fix this asap... |

| It sounds most like the glow plugs are not working. There is a 50amp fusible link for the glow plugs that is prone to blowing from time to time. The first check to do is for current at the buss bar (copper strip between glow plugs) and ground while the glow plugs are being activated with the key. You should see battery voltage. If not, then the fusible link or glow plug relay are faulty. |
