View original topic: Did all the Oval Convs have the Karmann badge on Pass. Side?

Hi!
Did all the Oval Convertibles have the Karmann badge on the passenger side below the antenna?
If it's missing and the holes for the badge were painted over, there should be one or two holes that can be seen from inside the panel, right?

Thanks!

karmann badge, with two Ts for ovals, should be low down on the front right quarter panel. I'm not sure if standard cabrios (as used by police) had the badge but all other cars would have it.

Thanks, Finstar,
Beautiful beetle!
From where do you access the badge to bolt it on? Inside the passenger side panel in front of the door?

The badge is screwed to the body using domed head slotted sheet metal screws.
This might help

Thanks for your replay, 56Cabrio,
The Karmann tag is missing on my car. It is likely that the repaint of the car a long time ago covered the two holes for the tag on ths exterior. But shouldn't there be two visible holes on the --inside-- of the panel where the tag should have been?

Thanks!

might be hard to see the holes from the inside as you have to peer down the gap beside the bonnet hinge and one hole will be obscured by the screen duct pipe.

56 Cabrio made a good point above: "The badge is screwed to the body using domed head slotted sheet metal screws." I had thought the badge was bolted on and would have required nuts being screwed on inside the panel, but sounds like thr badge was just screwed on from the outside and that was it.
Since the badge is missing on my car and the holes were paintd over, should the two factory screw holes be viewable on th inside with a flashlight?

It's possible, do you have the vert at home? If not when I get home from work, I'll take a look at mine and tell you what I see.

You would need a boroscope to see them from the inside as it's too far down in the cavity. I went through this exact scenario on a customers car I was finishing that the body shop filled the holes on. Another cabrio owner was kind enough to measure the exact placement so I could reattach the badge.
