Had to cut to re weld front clutch tube mount. Here is pics of where I cut and what you can see/reach. There is a lot of conflicting info, but I was lucky to pick the best spot so I can get the weld tip inside. Its a pain but can't be avoided now

You might cut differently or wider to the front of you want cable tip and hook access.

Could one use a strong hose clamp or small U-bolt to hold the clutch tube to the mount at the front?

My emoticon was meant for the initial post NOT your's. Your post wasn't up yet when I typed mine in, we posted at the same time and you beat me to the punch.

I do agree with your response but still go with  for the initial post.

The above pic shows the clutch tube end floating freely and doesn't actually show you how the tube should sit. Found this pic showing the inside of the tunnel... you can see the end of the tube should be mounted to the top of that bracket as close to the left side of the tunnel as possible. It looks like it is welded to the left side of the tab on the left side.

It might work if you clamped the tubing over the top of the tab, but I would think over time the tab would flex and break free off the bracket? It doesn't look like those tabs were meant to support the tube. Maybe a criss-cross of cable ties wrapped around the entire bracket and the end of the tube could hold the tube in place ontop of the bracket?
I've not looked inside the tunnel but these pics make it seem like the end of the clutch tube rests at the top lip/edge of the bracket with little overhanging the front. If that is the case then anything other than a weld might allow the tube to slip behind the bracket??
