I just got my 55 rag today and it is having some semaphore problems. The passenger side semi is getting stuck on the inner wall of the slot. Bent spring i assume? There is a lot of pressure going to one side of the slot. It will pop out and up when driving here and there but normally it doesnt. It always lights up and has power all the time. Even the driver side semi gets stuck some times on the wall, is there a way to keep it from catching on it? What is the best way to go about getting these fixed? Especially the passenger side.

I have this problem with one of mine, so I am ssuming it is common. Anyway, looking forward to anyone having an idea how to fix it.

Anyone?

I have 3 bugs with semaphores and I have never experienced what you are talking about. Sounds like it could be a voltage problem, not getting enough juice to make the solenoid open sometimes. Or you might need to check and see if the semaphore is properly aligned in the slot in the post. Twinwindows would be the expert on this situation.

That is what the problem is on one of them, at has a lot of pressure against one of the inside walls which seems to be from the spring being tweaked... Never had a semaphore in my life and im not about to mess with it now.

Somebody might have twisted it while it was open.

Thats what it seems like, i dont see what else could have happened.

What spring are you talking about, there is just one little return spring....

so open it up and look at it, see if it's bent, there are a lot of stupid mutherfuckers out there that don't realize that they open with Electricity and not THEIR HAND.

If you still can't fiqure it out, I'll take a look at it for you at BOR for the nomial YUSTRN consulting fee of 20.00.

---Thank You.

Problem # 2: the pass. side semaphore that was having the most problems earlier, is still lighting up and getting power, but even when helped with my hand, it will not exted out and up. It makes it about an inch out and then feels like if i try to help it any more something is going to snap or break. What is the deal? what could be holding it down?

You need to take it out of the car and clean up the mechanism. Over the years people like to squirt oil on them, causing them to collect dust, which gums them up.

I had kinda the same problem with my passenger side semaphore on my '58 euro...Mine would pop out very slow, sometimes sticking partway open. What I did, was to lightly (very lightly) grease up the sliding shaft that goes thru the semaphore, thus making a smoother operation....maybe that will help, I was mind boggled until that point.

Mr. Semaphore here. There are 3 springs on each semaphore and only one could possibly contribute to your problems and that is real unlikely.

1) Alignment-can be caused by several problems-narow semaphore post opening, bent semaphore arm, or loose piece in semaphore arm where hinge pin runs through the semaphore arm - the last is most likely.

2) Rising semaphore-multiple causes, most likely is dirty piston/solenoid follwoed by need for new pisrton because yours is worn or rusted, followed by faulty solenoid (unlikeley), or hinge pin return spring improperly set (unliekely) etc.
