Yep, the Elgin Bluebird. Quite the looker. I'm also a fan of the aerocycle-

Another fave, The Elgin Robin-

You need a vintage basket on the front for your cat.

i've got a phantom basket case, missing most everything but the locking springer fork and seat pan, a rough but rideable bf good rich, a couple of corvette's, and another unkown model, but nice og paint schwinn middle weight tank bike. the wife rides a pre war hawthorne that her grandma bought used years ago, and also has a sweet og paint(super ratty) ladies schwinn tanker that i bought off a garbage man who picked it up on his route.

Way futuristic for its time. They make fully suspended bikes that look like that now.

Bowden Spacelander. Rare and good to look at but possibly the crappiest manufacturing ever. Built in Grand Haven, Michigan only 522 units shipped.
In the 80's they were repoped.

Why was this bike a POS? I'd roll it.

i managed to get it out of the top of the barn safetly
under the red paint it was originaly some kind of metallic green, only a few things wrong ie the spokes of the front wheel, some bugger has nicked the brake pads, and a few rust holes in the box, and the swivel latch for the box is missing

I found an old schwinn and can't find any serial numbers??

zuhaelter_82 Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:50 pm

Somone stole my 68 Apple Crate about 8 years ago... I got it cheap from some old dude who bought it new. I see them unrestored for $500-$1000. I really want another one!

Spezialist Wed Apr 14, 2010 10:14 pm

I remember this one time...

No Schwinns, but I still have a Murray Wildcat banana bike that I got from Santa in 1966 when I was seven years old. Only toy I couldn't seem to destroy. Tore it up a few times, and fixed it. Probably where I got the mechanic bug (no pun intended).

When I was about 10 my Dad came over to my "workshop" because I was borrowing so many tools, to see what I was up to. I had that bicycle completely disassembled, including the coaster brake. Told him I was overhauling it. He just said, "Damn boy, I just hope you can get that back together. I did, and rode it until I got my license.

Now I have a 69 beetle 'vert completely disassembled. Damn, I hope I can get THAT back together.
