I think this thread needs to be bumped every 5 years or so, to remind anyone who is currently thinking of repainting something original. As time goes on, the repaint of an original bus that has somehow survived with a percentage of original paint and well earned character will continue to be a worse and worse idea.

Wow! I have never seen this thread but can't believe that bus got painted. About a month ago, the insane idea of painting my bus down the road, popped into my head. This just cured me of wanting to do that. Thanks Patrick, you saved one more!

I Definitely need to do a little bit of welding to my patina 1956 single cab. I have zero problem having shiny dove blue floors under the rubber mat, but I wonder if there is some way to sympathetically blend some paint protection on welded in patches? I live in the humid rust belt, Iowa. Metal rusts even faster in the summer time.
I've got a bit of experience with a spray gun.
Is there a thread someplace?
