For the 100th post in this thread I figured I'd let everyone know about the availability of 2005 Shasta Snow Trip t-shirts. They are available in lots of sizes and are gray with a navy blue logo. They are $12 plus $3.80 shipping. Contact me if you want to order one. You can pay with PayPal or Money Order.
These are shirts for the upcomming trip, not some leftovers from some past show. Show your support for the trip and sport one of these stylish T's.
Time to go back to getting the bus prepped. Only 79 days left till launch! |

Greg: Glad to hear you've finally got your priorities straight! But I need to comment: Please don't over-do-it.
Are you kidding me? Don't over do it. That's all I know how to do.
Lets just say the Bus in question already has a few "modifactions" so I'm not responsible for any of that. I'm just taking the base and building upon it.
kombisutra wrote: This trip is NOT for everyone. We don't want anyone showing up that is not completely ready for mechanical and elemental (weather) war. Let this be clear: Do not plan to come on this trip unless you know your machine, tools, gear, and personal capabilities are good enough to stand alone in no man's land... ALONE!
I'm glad you pointed that out. I can just see a bunch of "suits" showing up to go on the "Bus Snow weekend trip" with their buddies and having no idea what to expect, let alone how to get a tire seated on the rim with no air.

Contact Richard Kimbrough (rustybus) about the image... he made it. Would love to see it plastered on your bus!

I've got heat! Drove to work this morning, aprox 20 miles one way, and by the time I got to work the heat coming out of the vents was 160 degrees. Felt good even though it wasn't that cold her in Phoenix.
There seems to be some exhaust leaking into the system so I still a little to do on that. And the only funny smells coming out of the vents were a mixture of hot metal and engine.

I know I ran chains before, like 6-7 years ago and I think i was running 185's.
Mike might have the answer you don't want, in that smaller tires will be wise to mount the chains too. Hell, you know how close the tire gets to the spring plate. I'm not saying you can't do it with big ol' meats, but it may prove challenging keeping them from rubbing.
Do you all mount chains every year?
No. Last year Sandy and I made it in the '63 Crew Cab sans chains ....
Cheers!

These roads on this trip, is this one of the deals where if it snows 40", we'll be on CNN being rescued, or is it, just put the chains on and go??

<sic>No. It's more like put the chains, jerk forward and rock back and forth as each side gets traction whilst the other side looses it. <sic>

There will be at least one other 61 sunroof standard on the trip. The Rustybus shall be attending again.
ALLRIGHT!
Everytime I saw you take a turn last trip and whip around the corner, I kept hearing the Edgar Winter Group tune, "Frankestein!" :D |

Well, I finally got Rachel's trip report posted on the site from last year. It gives a little insight into the trip from a first time participant.

Drivers that are going on the trip should get on the email list. Copious on and off topic banter should have you totally locked on for the trip.
Email me at kombisutra@netzero and say you want in and I'll add you on.

Sandy and I will be trying to get our info for the Trip from the e-mail list ...
We have a few minor problems.
Rosie will go into the shop tomorrow for upgrades for the upcoming Shasta trip. I have the time to do it, just not the strength. Right now, I couldn't change my own oil without help.
Last Monday I had chest pains that didn't really jive with any of my EMT training, took an aspirin hoping that would help ... it didn't. Once I was doubled over in pain and in an ambulance it really began to set in this was real wrong.
A CAT scan reveals I have a descending aortic dissection (I've already let Rustybus know, I'm in bad shape) ... yeah, similar to what happened to actor John Ritter. So now, I'm really freaked out. Fortunately, I had an aggressive team that stabilized me quickly. It's a little scary. But I've been given a good prognosis provided I make some serious lifestyle changes (smoking, drinking, exercise, taking my meds ... which incidentally suck, it makes you feel drunk and I've been stumbling and running/falling into shite all week)
But I can I still drive Buses! :P
I wish everyone loads of fun this weekend
Lance
(Ps, Greg: Shame on you! That's cheating ... give Toby a pat/pet and a hug for me ...) |

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. Good thing you caught it in time. On a serious note, if your meds really make you feel as you describe, please don't drive.....

If it's a day trip and nice I'll drive the SO-42 and take Toby (maybe Buster too) out for the day. |

That sounds pretty harsh Lance. Really glad you got a good team to fix you up. You two tracking us down from clues from past trip reports last year was so cool. Can't wait to cruise with you again this year. |

What I should have stated is that although I can no longer drink, smoke or work the ridiculous hours I've put myself through this year at work, I will not give up driving my bus.
Right now my idea of driving is sitting in the driveway with the engine running ... I'm too woozy to take it around the block for a spin ...
