I decided to put my half-full glass of Merlot... on top of a coaster... on top of the tire. The tire is gnarly enough to stand on it's own, so it did and the wine sat there while I got the Iphone out. I was looking through the camera when the tire rolled, spilling the red ink all over the white couch and new carpet  Impossibly, my life was spared, as Hot Mama had a second set of couch covers (Ikea) and she actually didn't like the carpet anyway (10' X 12') area carpet. Other collateral damage went to the wrapped Christmas packages under the tree. I really appreciate people who can maintain their cool in direct fire or when, in this case, a bomb goes off. Hats off to Hot Mama, you can just throw me under the bus however.

Anyway, I'm pretty stoked about the tires, and yes, Cory said Tire Specialties actually has some weird industrial or farm company ordering them. Kinda' thinking I might put them on all the buses. Supposed to be "Postal Vehicle" tires. http://www.stausaonline.com/bias-ply-passenger/postal-tires.html

Remind me to keep WAY clear of you when driving!
On a serious note: I think those might be LLV tires. The little mail trucks made by American General!
I'll check some out next time at post office.

What's up Al! Here, the Bentley says 6.40X15 / 27.2" is stock. These are claimed to be 27.2" exactly. Stock width is 6.4". These things are 6" without air in front of my Christmas Tree. They say "Section Width" is "7.70" and I believe that is width of tire at it's widest, not at the tread, witch again, is 6". These things are really, really close to stock.

Basically, these tires are as close to stock -if not slightly smaller- than I've ever seen.

Note: Post 63' 14" Wheel Dudes: Item PA2H2 for post-63 buses with 14" 5.00 25.50" http://www.stausaonline.com/bias-ply-passenger/postal-tires.html

Good Work Cory!

those look awesome. i always thought 7x15s are the way to go, but 205/75/15s might just be the ticket.

We ran those tires on the old USPS Jeeps, them tires is badass! When I first started with the Post Office they would send me out in a Jeep to drop off packages in the countryside, never got stuck! The new rigs(LLVs) run 14 inch retreads, they do pretty good in snow and mud.

Over and Out, Mr. Armstrong

What I said, LLV.(Long Life Vehicle)
Ya know, bias plys just don't get it for me. Ain't drinking anybody's Kool aid on that one. I remember back in the 70's when I first replaced bias plys on a vehicle with new radials. WTF? About as much difference as with air or without air.
Any sharp new snow tire will work pretty good. Bias plys will be worn out next season cause they squirm too much. Tread life was abysmal on bias plys.
Only people in the world use bias plys is the USPS. Either they are stupid or currupt and there is payoff somewhere. The whole (VW diesel powered Kubvan vs LLV thing should tell you something. Kubvan got over twice the mpg Oh- it was slow! )

Yup. Clearly I haven't used them yet but they appealed to me as a good compromise between on and off pavement driving.

I have them on my Subaru Forester, they haven't let me down yet and are well mannered on the road. I think you'll be pleased.

On my daily bicycle ride I pedal past a 65 or so OVP camper bus. I think he may be getting ready for Shasta, now has a CB radio antenna and curtains that werent there before (well I dont think they were). Probably not even a SST bus but in my small mind they all are.

Good morning!

So as I was sleeping last night I had a vision about 30 plus buses going over hull mountain. We have no rain or snow in the immediate forecast which sucks on a lot of levels but might make hull or mendo pass available as a new route. I remember trying with joe and surf city and bad dog and a few others 2 years ago to go over hull mtn and although the conditions this year kinda make it feel like cheating it would be pretty cool. Maybe now that I even mentioned it Mother Nature will open heavens gates and unleash some damn rain and snow and it will be a proper snow trip. Either way I'm looking forward to thrashing some back roads and enjoying the company of y'all in a couple weeks!

:D

joe cool Sat Jan 04, 2014 2:03 pm

Looks like at least two busses will be making an attempt on Hull mountain this Thursday morning. Not expecting to see snow but looking forward to getting some dirt on my new tires.
