Got a buggy project, runs great but...
It has one long axle, one short axle... different drums and axle nuts on each side.
Brakes on one side are adjusted on to max and still don't hit the drum.
It seems that I would needs different shoes on each side and I imagine that I have the wrong shoes on the bad side.
This is a cheap thrasher buggy... I'm thinking I'll just change out the brake shoes on the one side.
Any advice? Comments... What would you do... change out an axle?
Are the axle tubes different? |

I would change out everything on both sides. That way you are sure everything is the same year and working in harmony. If somebody just slapped in any old axle they could have put a right axle on the left side and it will break real quick.
to answer your question you are now about to ask...Is there a right and a left axle?.....No either will fit on either side, BUT once installed one on a particular side it can not ever be switched to the other side. It will break almost instantly. Once an axle has been installed on any side it twists it that direction and has a set pattern in the grain of the steel. If you twist it the other direction it will fail. |

I am sure you are talking about a Race axle situation...BUT on a thrasher buggy ANY two of the same length axels will do.
The only thing I would worry about here is that the breaks actually work...It is always nice to STOP when needed. |

Dave, wouldn't shot-peening correct the axle problem if you used an axle on the other side? |
