View original topic: Type 1 motor into 914

I know Im going to get asked why, so let me address this up front. I have another 914 with no motor, but that has trans and everything else. So I figure, why not throw something in it since I've got some type 1 uprights laying around. My question is, will this thing just drop in. Aside from some possible decklid clearance issues, what am I going to face? I thought it would be easier to throw it in the forum and find out what Im up against before I jump into it.

i think you'll run into a tranny input shaft issue. 914 tranny has an input shaft that sticks out further. that'll be weird, unless somebody makes some kind of spacer. even then, you'll need to do something about engine tin, since it will all be different. what about exhaust? good news: the decklid clearance to the fan shroud won't be an issue. plenty of room there.

Yea, I found a website called massivetype4 and they make all the parts necasary to do it, but its more than I want to spend on the car. It can indead be done though.

Sounds like something I want to do. I want to put my 2332cc into a 914. The handling is looking more promising than a straight line right now.
