Just picked up this early 67 camper for brother in law and have never seen this camper kit before...believe to be non-hippy...has alot of detail and defiently not a one timer, bed has pull twist legs that match table, rear of bed took alot of attention, not to mention the screen's ...posted some pics in gallery as well

...stock "norcal riviera" mirrors as well

that bus is a lot like my sundial

i think the triangle shaped supports behind the rear seat are specific to sundials

i saw a picture of other teal interiors before but yours is in really sweet shape

i would really like to understand about the window screen set-up, because i have screw holes from that - got any more pics?

iamdonquixote Tue Jan 18, 2005 5:45 am

looking at those windows makes me think it is a Bowman camper.

You should see pictures of my interior, man! Teal through and through! Seats, table, ice box cabinet! But that definitely "looks" like a Sundial set up with that water tank the way it is. Might be able to pinpoint it if you can land some more photos.

And those mirrors are cool...mind yer tongue there. ;)

I had a Sundial with a teal bed, and a friend's DD Sundial had a teal bed too. Those windows look to me like popouts that have those screens over them. That box has a sliding door to allow access to the popout latch. I've seen a couple sets before.

those pictures are pretty bad - but is the wood more of a mohogany?
I have a funny feeling that's a Bowman camper. I don't know much about Bowman's but I have seen two, they only made the kit in 67. They converted kombis's I believe - how about an M-Code?
They have kinda of a 70's feel - take a big wiff of the interior; can you smell porn?

westcoastbullies Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:19 am

the wood is a darker mahogany, fridge is teal and has a removeable cabinet for water tank...all door tables have the drop leaf to hold them up....small table slides onto a braket...ill post more pictures of it tonight...

the screen sliders took some imagination...i think ill look into the Bowman scene, where was Bowman from...

cool!

If not for the windows, I'd say sundial by the removable tank. Cool camper. If anyone has any info on Bowman campers please post it.

tell us about the latches for the mirror door on the side cabinet - is it brass kinda looks like more furniture-ish?

the teal reminds me of a caravelle camper. Caravelle/ez/sundial were all owned by different members of the same family. I have seen a caravelle with teal, I have never personally seen an authentic sundial with teal. It could be an early kit (62-63ish) put in a later bus. You never know. For the Sundial/ez/caravelle story check out http://sundial-camper.com/ sundials and there relitives have very distinct shapes to there kits, you will find plenty of pics there

That is a sundail camper. I had a 1965 that was the same. I have also had a 1962 bowman camper that had sundail type windows in it. I saw another bowman a pomona about 5 years ago and it had the same screens that are on that camper.

I talked on the phone to the guy who made bowman campers. Thay are out of El Cajon, Caifornia. 1962 was the 1st year they made them. The company is still around but they make other things now. The bus i had came from Truman motors in El Cajon. The Bowman i saw at pomona had a sticker in the window that said Bowman and sons camper. I saw one other one in Jerome in 1997.

Waterman had a camper (his friends) at BBB that had the same screens.

no, thank you for putting the time and effort to create/maintain it. All the pics helped me with my sundial when I need it

thanks for the info on the Bowman camper - vtomike

The only thing I am confused about is that you say its a sundial yet it has Bowman windows?
As I said I know very little about Bowman's except that I am unaware of any other camper kit with those type of windows..
Is there a Bowman web site? Any other pics in the gallery? I didn't realize that they made kits earlier than 67 I would like to see some of those pics..

vtomike Tue Jan 18, 2005 6:20 pm

My bowman had slat type sundial windows. Crank open type. Thats what it came with. The one i saw at pomona had window screens like the pics of the camper on this page. I will try to find pics of my old one.

vtomike Tue Jan 18, 2005 6:28 pm

Also mine was a panel conversion. i have not been able to find much more info on bowmans but you can try to look up the name of the company to get a phone number and talk to the old man like i did. In 1962 the wood panel construction looked pretty bad But the 1967 one i saw looked very good. The water tank in the 62 was under the seat behind the driver and it had a water spout and bowl where the sundial water tank would be but it was lower than the table top above the ice box.
