Currently I have Michelin xzx 145 sr 15's on the front of my bug with a 2 inch narrowed adjustable beam. But the drivers side tire has been wearing really bad so I think I need a alignment. So I need two new tires before I have that done. I tryed searching Discount tire and tire rack but theres nothing for that size. Where can I find the same tire I have or atleast one the same size for a resonable price? Or is there a better size or brand that I should go with? I want to stick to roughly the same diameter but would be ok with something slightly wider.

Quite few shops out here in the West Coast has them listed for about $80-$90/ea But a nicer option is the 145/65R15 tire. It's more readily available through mail order dealers such as tirerack.com and lists for $60/ea + shipping. Benefits are it has the same width as the 145/15, but has a shorter profile.

Just re-read your post, you want a wider contact patch? Try the 155/60R15

What do you mean by shorter profile? Is the tire actually smaller in diameter. How much wider is the 155/60r15?

155/65R15's are usually found on Smart Cars. The track will be increased by 10mm each wheel. They look like this:

175/65/15 is close in overall diameter but has a much better footprint and are common at most any tire shop.

i'll say what i always say. make friends with a local tire guy. one thats been around forever and preferably also deals in used tires. it don't take long of repeat customer status to get yourself in good graces with most. the one i usually use will test fit a tire for me. put it on drive it around the lot a bit and see if it works or not. usually get one of them to ride with so theres a little extra weight in the car. most will do this even for new customers if you let them know what the deal is. sometimes they are a little quicker to test out used. my tire guy does damned near new tires for $25 mounted and balanced.

for a mildly lowered car i think a 175/65/15 front and 195/65/15 rear is a good combo. i'm going to attempt that combo on my square and it's getting a narrowed type1 conversion beam and dropped spindles.

185/55/15 might be a possible choice for you to. the are shorter in overall diameter than the 175/65/15. thats what is on the front of my square now. i like them and i got them for $55 each through tires-easy...ken....

yep thats why i like the 195/65/15. only a wee bit smaller in overall diameter than a stock 165r15...ken....

like i said before take the car down to a local tire store, try and avoid a chain but even they should accomidate you on this. tell them what the deal is and what you are thinking about. my first try would be the 175/65/15. i'd almost bet it'll get the job done.

if this is for the 66 with BRMs in your gallery(taking a guess) i REALLY think they will work. unfortunately the only real way to know is trial and error and even then expect that you could have a rub or two here and there.

i don't think your car is low enough for any of the smart car tires as they'd leave a ton of "fender gap".

i'm gonna stick with my original suggest. i've just got a feeling...ken....

I currently have the Nankang 145 r15s and I like 'em a lot. I've managed to find them for about $80+ shipping each with the newer modern tread pattern (no too crazy about newer tread look but not going to be too picky). Other than what I've found online I will be lookin' around here locally. Mt neighbor is a cool guy and he works for Tires Plus. I may be buggin' him for those. Anybody else find these online somewhere for a reasonable price? Not interested in anything esle other than 145 r15s for the front, thanks.

I just got 145's here. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=799358 They ship them in a box and you only pay regular shipping charges, you do not have to pay any UPS "oversized" surcharged.
