Greetings all!
Well I put the new 32/36 on my 78 2ltr Westy, ( PO had converted FI,and the prior carb had broken the acc pump cover at lever arm) and adjusted according to downloaded "best lean idle" instructions from Redline. After bringing up oil pressure, I primed the carb...went to start and ran at way full thottle! Hooked up electric choke wire, tried again, still way too fast!
Does anyone know the procedure for starting from scratch on this carb? Or an archive or link to tell how? TIA any and all help! |

Do you have a throttle return spring on??
Was the timing or distributor set/ messed with during the change over?
try slackening or disconnecting the throttle cable and operating the linkage manualy from the engine compt whithout it being hooked up... you could have the cable pulled too tight.
Try backing off the main throttle set/stop screw.... the thing should not be on " runnaway mode " unless something is binding or holding the linkage open quite a bit.... |

Keifernet-thanx! you always have the right approach. Spring is on,no dist or timing changes, even tried without cable hooked up. The throttle stop/speed screw is backed out per Redline Weber tech specs. Start her up and immediately have to shut down due to very high ( Really High)revs! No air,vac leaks. What next? I'm going nuckinfutz here! |

Do you still have an electric fuel pump? the factory or aftermarket? are you using a fuel pressure regulator set to 3-4 lbs?
Back out the screw some more??? Redline instructions don't mean squat to me, ever heard of TYPO'S... LOL!??? hell who knows??
Keep checking.... do you see fuel spilling over or dripping when you look doen the carb... right after running it for a few seconds and shutting it down??? could be fuel overflow bad float adjustment/ needle and seat stuck ect.... is the carb new of rebuilt/used???? Keep plugging at it....
Keep at |

As luck would have it,I got the idle down by completely backing off the (factory set-so what!)choke cam screw. Now --do I benefit from running the electric choke and setting the cam screw right...or go the Muir approach? I checked on the float, seemed ok already,so went on w/it.How to set the choke right if it's a best idea? No.FL ain't too cold too often.I like the"Hell, who knows " approachbecause sometimes it really comes to that! We are happy when others offer technical support and/or comic relief! But the good advice is favored and appreciated!!! |

Sounds like the choke may have been wound up too tight then... I diddn't even think choke as like you say here in the south it was freakin 90's again today... Maybe loosen the screws and twist the choke back all the way then retighten till it just shuts the butterfly when cold( yeah right lets just call a cold choke "static" here in the warmer climate...) and re adjust the gross screw adjustment again.... good luck hop I helped you at least a little.... |
