I was reconstructing the front driver side pillar (above the jack point) when I noticed this nut inside the pillar that is welded on a 12 gauge plate. At first I thought that the Westy dining seat is screwed to it but when I checked the seat, I cannot find a part that secures the seat to that nut.
I check my 1971 Deluxe bus and it does not have that nut on the pillar. Since the nut is welded to a 12 gauge plate, this means it has to hold some weight when it is attached to something.
Was it placed there during manufacturing because some of the Camper conversion companies have a design that has a use for that nut but not Westfalia?
What is that nut for?

To me, that looks like the seatbelt anchor for the early Westfalia jump seat. At least, that's where it is on my '69.

| thanks guys for identifying that nut as a seat belt anchor. I will have to reuse that 12 gauge plate and weld it as part of the pillar after I grind it clean from rust. Hopefully the rust in it is not that bad. |
