I am looking for help to sort out my wiring in the dashboard.
I looked at the wiring diagrams in the technical area and finf nothing to help me with my early 01/73 1700 bus with alternator
Colours are different .
On top of this newer switches , ignition switch,wiper switch are allso different colors.
Any help pointing me to a wiring schematics heaven would be appreciated

The 1973 1700cc version here is correct: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringt2.php
The 73/74 also applies, the 72 1700cc would also do if you prefer the different way of drawing it, only difference on that one would be the fuel gauge vibrator.

Guess i should explain more
The bus came from Germany, shipped to Montreal and picked up by the original owner , and drove back here to BC Canada .

Due to this i read there could be a difference in the wiring colors 72-73 change over . On top of this the signal switches - wiper motor
-ignition switch ar all hard to get for this year .

Still looking at the wiring i see colors not
Mentioned on the USA specs wirings schematic.

Breaking news!!...., buses sold in North America at that time also came from Germany! :shock: :P
Yes the wiper circuit may differ slightly between 72/73 as they were in transition during that period, but the rest of it should all match up.

What's the exact issue?, it sounds like some PO is messing with you.

It is also not an early 1973 model year Bus, the 1973 model year production started in 8/1972

a little carb cleaner or acetone on a clean rag wiped over the wire may take off years of dirt and smoke etc that discolor the wire and show the original colors of the wire. You may find that a green and white wire is actually blue and white when you clean it. An orange wire may actually be yellow, or dark brown may be red. Try it.
