I reactivate the insurance and pulled it out of it's slumber. Drove it for a few days while the wife used my daily driver, and it seemed happy to be out on the road again, especially the freeway.

Amazingly, I bought my thermostat from a regular VW dealer, and they had it in stock at the warehouse! The parts guy was walking around showing it to the mechanics when it was delivered, lol.

Oddly enough I enjoy wiring, and re wiring.
You would have loved our '70 coupe then... the wiring was so mixed up that the headlight switch turned the engine off, and not because of a short either!

Managed to find a source for 'universal control cables.' Now deciding whether to go with these cables, or use the single control by the handbrake (in the link you provided).
