My solution is a hybrid with metal screws and plastic license plate style fasteners. Best of both worlds and easier to deal with than traditional plastic nuts.

The bus is from 3/76 and I have been using an enlarged version of the 8/75 diagram but the actual is more consistent with the one you forwarded from 8/76 on busdaddy.
