We've mounted the Automatic transmission cooler fan relay on top of the main +30 fuse box or in that area.

That fuse box is located in front of your right rear tail lens.

Forgot to mention the van sat un-driven for five years. I replaced all the seals on the trans and drained and put in a new filter. I also added an external cooler from Van Cafe.

We have battled with this same problem early on and have learned from it. Since then every 1.8T Vanagon conversion we built has had no issues and our Wunder Bread race Vanagon.

We use a heat shield on our 1.8T engine conversion. The catalytic converter can get upwards of over 500F ++. It's always a good idea to help keep excess heat away from your engine bay.

We have had problems early on with the turbo mounting bolts coming loose, or rather stretching when heated up due to over-torquing.

We stopped using the Grabber material because is started to lift in areas. We switched to a material called Allante Vinyl. Seems to hold better and looks just as nice.
