1986 and up Vanagons have self adjusting rear brakes.

Check the volume of your heads combustion chamber first and then deck ht so you can figure out the compression ratio.

I use Swepco 201 in all my VW's and it shifts smooth and is super quiet....yes at 15F its abit thick but warms up in a few blocks.

All type 4 tin has that dipstick hole, it's a carryover from the sedan.
1st pic is alternator harness.
