Just popping in to say i'm following along and digging your effort.

Using a wet rag to cool welds does indeed cause movement.
Usually it's some shrinkage.
Depending upon what you are trying to do ...

Build the Type 1 and sell the Type 4.

Type 4 parts are VERY expensive and some are NLA.

Many more options for a Type 1.

Nothing is NLA that hasn't been replaced with something else.
