I just built a 1914 and have over $5000 in parts alone. That doesn't include machining, labor and the core engine. It's overbuilt and should be very reliable.

and thing shrouds are hard to come by these days for a decent price.
Is $200 a decent price?

You don't use the mark on the distributor, you use the mark on the crank pulley.

I have to agree with Tim. Most VW people aren't willing to spend $200+ on a quality distributor.

2/3/4 all fit a 1600, depends where you want the bolt to be. They are 1300-1500, Type 3 and 1600.
