Didn't state it had to be air-cooled
Technically a "motor" mean and electrical motor as opposed to a internal combustion "engine".

Look at it this way:

If you drive your VW daily as much as the average driver you'll put 12,000 miles a year. So in 10 years you'll put 120,000 miles which is very doable with a nicely built Type 1 ...

I use a 890mm belt on my engine with alternator.

I find belt size varies from engine to engine.

The breaker plate is from a 40HP Big Cap distributor.

how would you build a stock vw motor to last 200,000 miles that would give you good HP. and mileage.
"Stock" engine would use "stock" parts and provide "stock" HP.

The internal condensers came back later on in other vehicle makes such as Mercedes.
The V8s, the 4 and 6 cylinders still had them outside.

It's rare to have an internal condenser on a 60mm distrib ...

If an OG bellows style thermostat is closed it's working, no need to test.
It is, however, good to know that everything else is working , not binding and like that.

68 Beetle with a autostick had an SVDA.

64 Type 3 with the 1500S engine had a SVDA.

Is this an established fact?
I understand it never came that way, as ALL 1971 and up 1600 air cooled vw motors were equipped with dual vacuum distributors and 34 Solex carbs.
But I've owned a 197 ...
