Just my 2 cents. In my old bus.
A Coleman 12v Fridge w/ AC adapter fits perfectly in cabinet hole with no modifications (model 5640) ..

flexible rubber brake lines deteriorate from the inside and fail causing your symptoms, they look good from outside.
