Now the Big Bore Kits sold these days may have interference issues with the crankcase... so they may not be "easy bolt-on" style of upgrade.

The distributor badge looks like it says BR 25. That distributor was produced from late 1959 through the 1960 model year. the badge design eliminates it as a 1955 ish distributor.

Original ragtop was only from november 55 to May 56, and have rounded corner in the front, and square corner rear. From May all 4 corner was rounded.

The 1500 and the 1300 are same, exept the bore and the heads (bigger valves in 1500).
So if you get a 1500 H engine, it is easy to put the part on your correct F case.

Its too many parts that diff ...

Through the years I have seen several factory refurbished 57 or newer motors, but havent seen earlier 36hp as factory rebuilt ones.
So I assume that VW didnt use the cases with the smaller oil galler ...

The stock gears are 17 mm. If using higher oil pressure than desinged, could be so that the oil relief valve doesn't close to the oil cooler circulation as planned. Then there is a risk for overheatin ...

When changing oil pressure switch, original is 0,25 bar, but many sells 0,5 bar instead.
So be aware, and buy the 0,25 bar switch.

VW ended up to recommend 15w40 viscosity oil for the beetle engi ...

The vw workshop manual says that the pipes has to be pushed as far as they will go. So no measurements necessary Wink
I always pull them out again by 2 centimeters because I noticed a difference ...

Be aware that the original switch is a 0,25bar unit, many aftermarket ones are 0,5 bar.
And dont run on too low idle.

AA pistons are cast iron

what is the weight difference... less rotating mass is more torque!

From 1970 the 40hp use the same dual relief case as 1300-1600.

Read the progressive refinements in Technical section, thats probably closest to the VIN or production cars. But of course they normally built some prototypes before that.
