I had this problem, my lower C pillars were shredded.
As mentioned, trial & error fitting a cardboard mockup and transfer the template to steel & fabricate.

Here's my take.

12 year old me would have loved the idea.
16 year old me would have preferred to have restored the bus with my Dad and drive it.

4 years can make a big difference in perspective ...

The pads in my '64 originally had some adhesive on them FWIW, which I've seen on others as well. They hold in place quite well without any adhesive, as they're supposed to be folded over while install ...

I don't have it in front of me at work, but the white decal on the side reads Y 7 637 150, with a serial number below that. It also reads Blaupunkt with some other German writing on it.

Cleaned a lot of weird junk from the OG air cleaner I found and test fit a few more pieces to get the '64 back on the road. Going from a 1915 to a stock 1200 should be a trip.

If you want an easy additional rake, go 155/60 front & 185/60 rear Contis. It will throw your speedo off a bit though and the ride is noticeably more shopping cart-like. Smile

They came from the factory with the 'football' pads in the C pillar.
Mine shows no signs of rust, with the car living in the PNW for 50 years now.
