1950-1971 are all M8 (8x1.25) from the factory for German buses. 14mm heads through 1960ish and 13mm heads after that. You can use reduction box bolts if you want the right markings on the heads.

have you tried chasing the threads?
Those bolts get dry and rusty; do apply grease/ oil/ anti-seize to the threads when installing them

There are some good threads about the conversion and a LOT of opinions for or against. I'm pro 12volt.

You don't need to change your distributor, they aren't 6 or 12 volt specific.
